The culmination of 14 years of restoration. Take a step back in time and come aboard a piece of US Coast Guard maritime history. The MLB Surf Runner (formerly Coast Guard 36460) is an original, restored 36' US Coast Guard motor lifeboat built in 1941 at the Coast Guard Yard, Curtis Bay, MD. She has an overall length of 36'8”, a beam of 10'8” and a draft 3' 4”. Constructed of 1-1/2” thick cypress planking on oak frames and fastened with bronze, monel and copper fastenings, she is an extremely rugged and seaworthy boat. A 194 gallon bronze fuel tank gives her a maximum cruising range of 202 nautical miles. She is powered by her rebuilt 103 horsepower 471 Detroit GM Marine Diesel. The boat is designed for inshore, surf and bar rescue under the worse conditions. It is self-righting, self-bailing, and can carry up to 20 survivors. The evolution of its design dates from the early part of the century. In its day, this type vessel was considered the workhorse of the Coast Guard and was stationed throughout the U.S.
